How to Make/Format Hard Drive/USB on Mac to make it Mac and Windows Compatible ?
If you are unable to copy, paste, delete, transfer or modify data from your hard drive on your Mac, there is a solution for it. In this document we are going to learn. how do we format/create a hard drive/USB Mac Compatible? which can be used on Mac as well as on windows to perform data transfer (Read and write). You can create Mac Compatible hard drive on Windows as well as on Mac. So let’s go ahead and do it on Mac.
Step 1: Plug in your Hard Drive to your Mac Pc/Laptop. if you are getting a time machine backup option like this in image below click on don’t use or decide Later.
Step 2: Go to SpotLight on top right Corner or press Command key + Spacebar.
Step 3: Now Type Disk Utility in Spotlight Search and press Enter.
Step 4: Now you will able to see your External drive in Disk Utility app.
if you have this view you can switch to all items by clicking view menu from top left corner of your screen see the image below.
now you will see this screen . where you can see all partitions as well. now select you external hard drive.
Step 5: Now right click your External Hard Drive and Click on Erase.
Step 6: Now your will see this screen which is prompting “Erasing (name of your external hard drive) will permanently erase all data stored on it. you can’t undo this action. so make sure you have backed up all your data on this drive. now here you can name this drive(this is how you change name of a External or Hard Drive), select format (file system) and scheme.
Step 7: Now Select “ExFat” from format as your looking to make this hard Drive mac as well as windows Compatible and from schemes select “GUID Partition Map”. and click on Erase.
Step 8: Now click on Don’t use Time Machine.
Now Click on Done.
Now you can see Your External Drive is mac Compatible and now File Format is ExFat. now you can perform Read, Write on External Drive which mean you can perform copy, paste, delete and modify etc.
So this is how by following this process you can make a External Drive compatible with mac and windows on Mac PC. so that you can use it on on Mac as well as on Microsoft Windows to perform Copy, paste,edit,modify,delete etc or you can say read and write.
